In-Situ welding hybrid implant for vascular aneurisms

Type: Medical Devices
Sector: Vascular Access-Surgery

Abdominal Aorta Aneurysm (AAA) occurs in more than 2% of the adult population.

The condition may result in immediate death following rupture of the aneurismal sac.

Repair procedures are estimated at over 50,000 annual cases (USA).

Current solutions:

  • Endovascular Aortic Repair (EVAR) – applicable in only 60% of cases
  • Open surgery

In Situ Weldable Hybrid Stent combining two components:

  • Isolating liquid state polymeric structure - solidifying on site by thermal regulation (Reverse Thermo Responsive Polymer)

  • Low profile metal stent component

Indications / applications:

Vascular aneurisms

Competitive Advantages:

    • Improved maneuverability – 50% profile reduction, may allow more EVAR cases
    • Adjustable mechanical properties – tailor-fit to the pulsating vessel
    • Ability to partially coat the stent – if needed at bifurcations
    • Platform potential – additional vascular therapy applications (and others…)

Development stage:

POC in acute and short term animal trials (FU up to 3 months)
