PADview: PAD screening test (BioDesign)
Type: Medical Devices
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is the narrowing of peripheral arteries. By age 60 approximately 15% of the China population will have PAD. The problem commonly affects the lower limbs. Lower limb PAD is often diagnosed in late stages due to lack of symptoms of early stage disease and of awareness.
In serious cases, this can lead to limb amputation which can be prevented by stenting / pharmacological interventions if detected early. Currently there is no early, non-invasive, anatomical location based, fully automated solution for lower limb PAD screening.
PADview is a multi sensor device which enables early screening of lower limb peripheral artery disease (PAD) in asymptomatic patients. PADview utilizes auscultation, oximetry, and temperature sensors at variable leg positions to assess dynamic post obstruction blood flow. The device allows localization of leg–ankle disease (candidate for stent intervention) and ankle-toe disease (candidate for pharmacological intervention). The device performs an automated user independent analysis providing the following output per leg:
The classic ABI (hinting at the presence/absence of PAD in other locations) and an "angle score".
RED - localized critical PAD for consideration of invasive intervention.
YELLOW - localized pre-clinical PAD for conservative management.
GREEN - PAD free, for repeat screening within a year.
