Non invasive aerosol free PAP ventilation

Type: Medical Devices
Sector: Anesthesiology-Critical Care

Non-invasive ventilation is a useful tool in treating chronic to acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Current solutions include masks, which often suffer leakage and are difficult to synchronize, and hoods or helmets, which are often not sealed sufficiently, and also are prone for producing aerosols.

Aerosols were a main concern when considering the use of non-invasive ventilation during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Dr. Elchanan Fried, an intensive care specialist from Hadassah is developing a new hood for ventilation, based on zipper shaped sealing mechanism, which allows positive airway pressure to be generated, while reducing aerosol leakage.
